National Structure

The Christian Police Association provides a visible framework for Christian police officers and staff from all denominations to join together in a unity of spirit and purpose. We enjoy the freedom to meet together, to pray together and encourage each other from small local groups through to our annual national conference. There are other CPA events throughout the country during the year. This is an important witness of our faith.

The core of the CPA is the Local Branch. To find out more about your local branch click on the button to the left of the page. Not all police areas have a branch but we can put you in touch with other Christians in the Service. Some of the larger Police Services, such as the Metropolitan Police in London, have more than one group.

Local branches of the CPA are co-ordinated by the National Council. This provides the vision and drive for the CPA. Made up of key members from across the country the Council provides oversight and direction for the Association under our principles of Fellowship, Ethical Values, Proclamation, Organisation and Finance. They are also the official link with equivalent Christian Police groups from around the world.

Message from Chair of National Council

"The CPA has been encouraging and supporting the Christian faith in the Police Service for over 125 years. The message and hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ remains constant and true and has been and remains the sure foundation for our work.

We are a diverse group of people, united by faith and occupation, seeking to improve the quality of life in both the police service and in the community in which we serve.

We all have a part to play in this and I pray that you may be inspired to join us in our work."
Tony Gale.

The CPA has a President and Deputy President, usually a Senior Officer who champions the cause of the Association and is our advocate at National Level.

Message from CPA President

"With every year policing becomes more daunting and complicated, with high expectations and demands weighing heavily upon colleagues shoulders. It is easy to forget that, ultimately,we rely upon vulnerable
human beings to lead, resolve traumatic incidents and act courageously, then to go home as if nothing had happened.

My faith has always been much more than simply a comforting feeling or a set of helpful principles. I believe in a God who cares deeply for communities, people and police officers and whose love is shown through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I have found God to be both personal and practical, helping me through the good and the
difficult times.

The CPA brings together colleagues believing in an active and personal God, and also seeks tangible ways of showing the care and compassion of Jesus. It is a privilege to be CPA President,at a time when the truth
and practicalities of the Gospel have never been more relevant to our
profession"
Matt Baggott.

Deputy CPA President

"It is a humbling experience to be able to serve as the Deputy President to the CPA. Answering God’s call to be a police officer is never going to be easy – as policing itself is seldom easy – but I am certain that Faith equips us with all we will need. From time to time I have needed to rely on my training and protective kit to help in the face of adversity, but if I am honest it has been Faith that really prevails.

By providing support to all in the service who may need it, and by offering hope of salvation to any who care to seek it, the CPA continues to serve His purpose. CPA members, their branch leaders and the CPA central staff regularly demonstrate their commitment, usually in times of challenge, when true character shines through.

I never cease to be deeply impressed at what those in the police service undertake and achieve on behalf of those they serve, and to be able to take a role that allows me to serve in a leadership position in the CPA is a challenge I relish!"
